Family Eye Care Center of Atlanta is proud to offer testing and treatment for vision therapy for children and adults with vision disorders that impact their daily function. Assessments are also available for athletes who want to perform at the highest level within their sport.

Vision therapy is used to help patients with their visual skills and abilities. It helps them interpret visual information. Take our survey to see if you may have an undiagnosed vision disorder.

Can You Benefit From Vision Therapy?

Though eyeglasses are important to help our patients see clearly, there are times when people need more help to understand what they are seeing. An Optometric Vision Therapy Program makes the connection between the eyes and brain stronger using the concept of neuroplasticity.

The goal of therapy is to improve Functional Vision-in other words, how information comes into the eyes and then is interpreted by the brain. Improving or rebuilding connections between the senses that communicate with vision (auditory, motor, verbal) ensures that your eyes are doing what they were designed to do.

After completing the necessary testing, we will be able to determine where you need help. At that point, we will come up with a therapy plan to make sure that your eyes are working properly. Most people need to come to our office one or two times a week, though we may send you home with some things to work on while you’re away from our office.

Vision Therapy FAQ

When you are told that you would benefit from vision therapy, you may be full of questions. Below is a list of common questions about vision therapy.

What is vision therapy?

Vision therapy involves a series of exercises to improve the connection between your eyes and brain.

How often do you have to train your eyes?

It is recommended that you train your eyes one to two times a week, depending on your specific needs. Each session should last between thirty and sixty minutes. Additionally, enforcing the skills with home therapy is helpful.

How long will it take for my eyes to get stronger?

Since each therapy plan is different and everyone’ eye needs are different, there is no telling how long it will take for your eyes to improve, though most see an improvement in just a few sessions.

It is important to remember that your eye muscles will not change but the neurological responses between your eyes and brain will.

Does vision therapy really work?

Vision therapy really does work. There have been many studies which have shown great results and a high rate of success, which is why it is being increasingly prescribed for both children and adults.
